December 2005, I was working in a business somehow reminiscent of the Death Star, whose main activities were centered on derailing and intoxicating the hearts and minds of people. A huge Brazilian media corporation. One day I was waiting for colleagues in the entrance hall of the tall building, trying to forget about all the remaining hours of the workday before I would finally be allowed to go home. The group arrived and there she was, Julia Grassetti, with her usual starking presence. We headed to a nearby restaurant. Over lunch, we sat in front of each other and we discussed what we were doing with our lives. I told her I had just bought a new guitar and was recording an album at home. “What? Can I play bass on your album?”
Celebrating 20 years of Firefriend, I’m taking you back to our early days with a series of articles tracing the band’s history. You’ll read about how it all started—and get your hands on some of our earliest demos.
